Feature Request - Transferring Configuration from device to device

Lets say you are replacing a switch with another identical witch (non PoE to PoE...or replacing a defective switch). We would like to see an option where, instead of deleting the old device and adding another...simply changing the MAC and ST information would transfer all information relevant to its configuration to the new replacement device (think port names, configuration, ports, etc).

This is great for when all the 700 series needs to be replaced due to the one bank of outlets failing.

Can this be added as a feature request? Bakpak had this for their routers and this would also be useful for smart switches, WAPs, Wattboxes and Control4 systems.

I think the perfect example of this is the WattBox WB-700-IPV-12 Program. Most of my clients have 2-3 of these in a rack, renaming outlets and setting up the Auto-reboots all over again is a pain. Especially when most of these are non-billable calls. A "Replace Device" button or wizard would be great.

I agree with this feature request. Imagine if when you added a new device to OvrC, it checked to see if there was a similar or maybe it has to be exact device that is offline and asked if you wanted this new device to replace the old device. Wattbox is the prime example at the moment as we have been forced to swap some of those out recently. If anyone uses Crestron PYNG or HOME it would be a similar process. Ideally, though the devices would have to be identical, though. Like upgrade from a 8 port POE to a 16 port, keeping the config for the first 8 ports and leaving the extra 8 ports blank?

JM Williams How would you feel about a feature allowing you to save a device as a template. Then you could apply templates to other devices. Would that work for this, or would that be a separate feature?

James Zabel: I think the end goal would be to be able to just modify a mac address/serial tag number and have it be associated with that new device. That would entail some kind of back up of the config on OVRC so that the settings on the switch move over to the new switch. That would make swapping equipment out extremely efficient.
Edit: This would also be useful for some deployments where we have massive VLAN configurations, if a switch dies out, there is no worry as it is backed up to a cloud that OVRC manages. I wouldn't even mind if this was behind some kind of paywall for a feature like that.
Currently, my company backs information up using spread sheets as we have had issues backing up and uploading configurations using the built in backup/restore feature in the switches.
