would love the ability to scan barcode for adding new devices (scanning mac address and ST)

to save time during setup or out in the field it would be a lot cooler if we could scan the barcodes on the device label during setup to add the mac address and service tag. Since everyone of these labels is coded it only makes sense to add this feature. Surprised it wasn't added in this beta.

This app is free and should do what you want.

Without having to add new labels to devices, modifying the app for OCR to read the MAC/Serial off the box or the device would be a nice way to add it. No QR Code needed. Just the camera on the phone and OCR or existing bar codes.

we use a barcode scanner to add our device. especially if its a large job. but it only works partially. if we scan the mac address then it doesnt work. if we type the mac address then we can scan the ST number. so it partially works but could be better

The lack of this obvious feature has really tainted my intentions to continue with the concept. Come on guys at least let us edit a typo rather than go through it all again.

For what it's worth, I do add devices by scanning barcodes. There are a number of mobile keyboards that support barcode scanning and a $14 USB scanner works on the laptop.

Rob Dunham: I thought to myself, "These barcodes associate directly to numbers above/below them. I can scan this, right?" And here Rob is, the hero, saving us all the time of figuring it out. Rob, could you provide the exact model that is working for you? and where to buy? Thanks man!

Zac Serhus: Any generic barcode reader will work in "keyboard" mode. Here's the one I carry around. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MTXJJ6R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_Xbf8YcGL6LWrL

I installed an OVRC Pro today (300 model) and it automatically added the wattboxes on the LAN to the client interface - that was nice.

Im still not understanding why the automatic feature no longer works. Id much rather have every single device onsite that is set to DHCP and automatically grabs an address to simply ping the Snap servers and report the WAN address where it is located. After the first device is added from that same IP Address OVRC should automatically ask "Are these also your devices?" and list all the devices that have reported out to their servers. It used to work this way and no longer does?? What happened?

Tyler Worthington: there was a bug where it was adding incorrect devices to accounts.

Tyler Worthington: We know removing this feature caused issues for our customers. We removed the feature because of security reasons.
When devices connect to OvrC we know very little about the location. About the only thing that tells us something unique about the location is the WAN IP address. The previous feature you are referring to allowed us to aggregate all devices under the same WAN IP Address and suggest those to the integrator as in the same location for claiming.
ISPs are starting to no longer provide unique WAN IPs directly to customer homes. We saw increasing numbers of ISPs NAT customer homes under a single publicly routable WAN IP address. When integrators would leave devices unclaimed at a location, other integrators who would install new product at a completely different location but under that same ISP's WAN IP Address and could claim those devices. This created a security risk and we had to remove the feature.
Nicholas outlines the best way to claim devices. In a location, if you plug in all the OvrC enabled devices including the OvrC Pro device (OvrC Pro hub or Araknis X10 router) then by just claiming the OvrC Pro device and running a scan, all other OvrC enabled devices will be claimed in the location automatically.
We are actively working on improving the claiming process and some of the suggestions in this thread are under consideration.

Graham Hardy: "by just claiming the OvrC Pro device and running a scan, all other OvrC enabled devices will be claimed in the location automatically." Unfortunately, this feature, which did work at one time, does NOT currently work consistently.
